What makes you happy?

Finally I started with my motorcycle driving lessons! Within a few hours I went from not properly knowing how to get the thing started to driving along the road. I must admit, this did not happen without making the ground to my best friend (four times to be exact). The good thing was that I quickly lost my fear of going down. The trick is always to look in the direction you need to ride. This sounds quite straight forward, but do you realize this means not looking towards what you are afraid to hit? This means turning your head so far round you can’t any longer see where you are going, only where you should end up. The crazy thing is, it works! By looking in the correct direction the body follows. Maybe this is what we should try in life. Turn our heads towards the future and the dreams we want to reach. Maybe we can simply pass by obstacles by looking further forward and focussing on the greater goal. Eventually, it is all about creating a life that makes you want to wake up in the morning, start the day full of joy and fall asleep with a smile curling the corners of your mouth upwards. It isn’t about being who you should be according to the image you created in your head, it isn’t about being perfect. What does perfect even mean? A perfect soul, a perfect body, a perfect idea. It all sounds pretty perfect, but I am sure that while reading this we all have another perfect image in our head.

Probably you will all laugh at me now, but damn, my body was hurting after those first driving lessons. I suppose next time I have to relax a bit more and avoid coming to close to my best friend the ground, but hell, I love the feeling of riding that motorcycle!

It is thrilling, gives you energy and takes away all your worries as the only thing you can think about is how to ride and where to go. Maybe that is exactly what love is, a feeling of energy that makes you realize that at the end everything will be alright. And let’s be honest, isn’t love the easiest thing in the world? It can make you smile and enjoy the teeniest tiniest detail in life. Recently I read that people define themselves through what they don’t like and I realized this is a sad truth. It is so much easier to mention all the things you hate. I know what many people dislike and what annoys them, but what do they love? When do we feel safe enough to freely talk about what we love? When do we discuss which thoughts make us smile, even just for a moment, maybe carefully hidden away. The first things that pop into my head when I think about what makes me happy are: freedom, a unplanned encounter, sun warming up my body, travelling, wind rushing through my hair, music, random laughter, hidden away beauty, love, feeling the support of a friend, flowers, sticking my arm out of a driving car, friends, the air before a thunderstorm, unexpected kindness and finally the newest thing on my list, driving a motorcycle. Probably there are many more, but my dear friends, I would like to ask you, think about this, what makes your life worth it? What defines you and makes you happy? Say it out loud, share it, because maybe, just maybe, it will make you realize that life isn’t as bad as you feared.
