The cost of time

It’s a never-ending debate. All we have is time, yet all we spend is money.
Without any doubt we give away all our time to work and everything that has to be done. There’s no second thought on how we may be spending our time. What if we decided to keep a little time to ourselves? What if we were more stringent on the rewards we receive for giving our time to another? Since I’ve been back in Belgium after a year on the road this has become a constant discussion within myself. Time vs money. Both are in a certain way related to freedom, yet chances are slim to end up with both. In that sense we need to make a choice. What type of freedom are we asking for in life? Monetary freedom or timely freedom? This in turn leads to another question, which type of freedom may lead to the most sustainable form of happiness? People say that once you have money you can buy anything you like. I can’t argue with that, but aren’t we first buying that money with our time? Money may come and go, but time, once passed, will never come back. Every moment that goes by we proceed along our lifeline with no possibility whatsoever to change the moments gone by. When I was on the road I at certain points missed having money coming into my bank account, but I never yearned for it the way I long for some extra time these days. Slowly I am coming to the realization that my time might be worth more. Preparing our round-the-world trip I need to focus on earning money, but one thing is for sure, things will change. Society might remain the same time devouring monster, but I will slowly change and move towards another way of life.
