Fragile life
Today is such a beautiful day. These days are so beautiful. Sun, flowers spreading their perfume and life. Aching, amazing, shimmering life, but then I realise, not for all. It hurts when you really let this sink in. So many people losing their life because of war, because of anger, because of warmth and because of the sun. Heat we cannot imagine pouring down on them, but no water to lessen their thirst and no green to feed their animals. Bullets flying around, debris falling down and children growing up being more acquainted with fear and bombing than happiness and music. The number of refugee children younger than 14 years of age on the rise, crossing continents and seas for a better a life. For hope! Most people are afraid to leave their children home alone at this age, yet these children have seen more than our eyes will probably ever witness. Can you imagine this? And most importantly, can you ignore it? What is happening today is unacceptable, but still presidents and ministers dare to say we should not help more refugees. We should not save them from the endless blue waters because by doing so we encourage them to come. Sadly, at the same time we are making money by selling the weapons and bullets that kill them and force them to flee. At the same time so many among us still ignore the rising temperatures and refuse to believe in climate change that forces people to leave behind their homes. Some say we are powerless, but we aren’t. Each and every one of us has his or her unique power and talent to change something. Something small, something beautiful, something precious. This is beautifully reflected in the many wonderful deeds undertaken during the fire in London. A true tragedy showing how fragile life may be, suddenly taking away loved ones and transforming ordinary people to heroes, saving the lives of others. Inside I weep for those suffering and those still in the dark not knowing what the future may bring. For the lives lost to fire in London, for the lives lost during the explosion of a truck bomb in Kabul and for those shot while trying to flee ISIS in Mosul. I am sorry! I haven’t met any off you and I cannot imagine what you went through, but during the life I still have ahead of me I promise I will try my best to provide every single person with the opportunity to follow their dreams and live their future in the same way I received such opportunities.
