A road of questions (and doubt)

Before we had time to realise it, we had been on the road for more than a month. The road had been kind to us, the weather harsh and the sun heartwarming. Most of all, it had been an emotional rollercoaster. After so many years, we had truly left everything familiar and safe behind.

Was this how life on the road should feel like? Are we doing this traveling thing right? Should we be more productive and useful? It didn’t take long for doubt to kick in. Had we bought the correct motorcycles for the job? Did we do all the necesarry modifications? Why the hell did we decide to each take around 26kg of luggage?! Obviously the latter was followed by a thorough luggage search, deeply trying to figure out what we might be able to leave behind.

After spending a lot of time and energy on this big question, we came to the stellar constation that, apart from a few pieces of underwear and maybe a t-shirt or two, there was not much we could do without. The motorcycle tools had already come in handy quite a few times, a tent and camping gear seem to be kind of essential to camping and also our stove had an essential role in our day to day life. When it was sunny we wondered why the hell we were carrying all that winter gear and when the rain, snow and hail poured down on us we questioned the need of summer clothes, but as it turnes out, a swimsuit and a downjacket come in darn handy. Apparently, moving life onto two-wheels just requires a little of heave and how to go around.

Luckily, also the heaving and the howing got easier over time. The questions and doubts faded to the background, the stress was left behind on the road and life felt lighter as days went by. We were ready for a new kind of life! A life with the promise of the horizon ahead.

  1. So many times I’ve gone through our luggage and gone through the dilemma of of what do we really need and what don’t I want to live without. Everyone answers that question differently, and it also changes in different types of rides.

    Enjoy your adventure.
