A Travellers Ultimate Motorcycle Packing List
After more than a year on the road, riding from Ushuaia to Alaska, we are delighted to present: ‘A Travellers Ultimate Motorcycle Packing List‘.

This is an overview of every single item we carry, for every season, organised per category:

🧥 Clothing
Jonas’ Clothes (male)
- Socks: 6 pairs (2 winter, 2 summer, 2 mid-season).
- Underpants: 7 pairs.
- T-Shirts: 4 total (mix merino and cotton).
- Specialty Shirts: 1 sleeveless t-shirt, 1 mosquito shirt (highly recommended for tropics and hot deserts).
- Bottoms: 1 pair of pants, 1 pair of shorts, 1 multifunctional sleeping/running short.
- Layers & Warmth: 1 sweater.
- Sleepwear: 1 Merino wool legging, 1 Merino wool long-sleeve top.
- Jackets: 1 rain jacket (might be left behind), 1 synthetic down jacket (recommended over full down for wet conditions).
- Swimwear: 1 pair of swimming shorts.
- Accessories: multiple “buff” neck gaiters (including a windproof one), 1 hat, 1 beanie, gloves, sunglasses.
- Footwear: 1 pair of sandals, 1 pair of shoes (current ones are too big; replacing with trail runners).
Iris’ Clothes (female)
- Socks: 5 pairs (3 winter, 2 liner socks).
- Underwear: 7 pairs (mix merino and cotton).
- Bras: 2.
- T-Shirts: 4 (mix merino and cotton).
- Tops: 1 short-sleeve top, 1 long-sleeve shirt for sun protection (may replace it with a mosquito shirt).
- Bottoms: 1 pair of trousers, 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair of down trousers (for cold camping/riding), 1 legging (worn daily under motorcycle gear).
- Dresses: 1 “fancy blue dress”.
- Layers & Warmth: 1 rain jacket (might be left behind), 1 down jacket (recommended over full down for wet conditions).
- Sleepwear: Sleeping socks, 1 Merino legging, 1 Merino long-sleeve top (needs replacing).
- Swimwear: 1 bikini.
- Accessories: 1 baseball cap, 1 beanie, gloves, multiple “buff” neck gaiters (2 merino, 1 fleece, 1 windproof), sunglasses.
- Footwear: 1 pair of sandals, 1 pair of shoes (old ones died in Bolivia; new ones are too big, will replace with trail runners).
⛺ Camping & Hiking Gear
- Shelter: Lone Rider ADV 2-person tent (3.5 kg).
- Sleeping: Sleeping bags (rated to -1°C comfort, over 10 years old, now updated to the slightly warmer Helium 600 and Helium 600 Women’s), sleeping bag liners (for extra warmth and cleanliness).
- Sleeping Mats: 2 inflatable sleeping mats (with good R-value for insulation), Sea to Summit and Big Agnes.
- Note: They always start leaking after a few months and we are looking for a more durable option.
- Comfort: 2 inflatable camping pillows, 2 Helinox Ground Chairs (considered a luxury, but helps against back pain).
- Tools: Fiskars X5 Mini axe (used for cutting wood and as a hammer for tent pegs).
- Miscellaneous: Mosquito nets (essential for Scotland, Alaska and the Andes), headlamps (from Phoenix), 2 hiking backpacks, 1 fishing gear (“Catalina” hand reel with fish hooks).
🍳 Cooking Gear
- Stove: Trangia Storm Cooker (versatile, works with multiple fuels).
- Fuel: Propane gas and the ability to use burning alcohol.
- Cookware: 2 pots, 1 kettle (come with the Trangia Stove and fit inside).
- Drinkware: 2 mugs.
- Coffee: 1 AeroPress coffee maker.
- Cutlery: Each 1 spork, 1 tin opener, 1 Laguiole folding knife, each 1 CRKT M16 knife.
- Food Storage: Separate dry bags for carrying food.
🔧 Tools & Spare Parts
- Tire Maintenance: BeadPro™ Tire Bead Breaker and Lever Tool Set, tire patch kit, electric pump (for inflating/deflating tyres), 1 spare inner tube.
- Bike Stand: Eastbound Trail Jack (as the Honda CRF250L lacks a center stand).
- Essential Tools: A full set of tools for most roadside repairs (size of tools dependent on your motorbike), chain breaker, spare chain links, thread saw, Leatherman multi-tool.
- Electrical: Electrical clamps, wire and tape for basic fixes.
- Cleaning & Lubrication: WD-40 (for chain cleaning), chain spray, toothbrush, and rags for chain maintenance.
- Spare Parts: 2 spark plugs, fuses, brake pads (front and rear), clutch- and break cable, 1 gear shift lever, 1 brake/clutch lever.
- General Repair: Duct tape, hose (also to bleed the brakes).
📱 Electronics
- Computing: 1 computer, 1 tablet (for video editing, social media posts and trip planning).
- Navigation: 1 Garmin zūmo® 396 LMT-S GPS.
- Photography/Videography: 1 Sony A600 camera, 1 extra lens, 2x DJI Osmo Action 3 cameras (with mics and Dango Design helmet clamps).
- Audio: Earphones, an improvised portable recording studio.
- Power: 2 external batteries, a “shit ton of cables”, 2 chargers (one for the computer, one for all the rest).
- Storage: Lots of external memory for video footage.
- Bags: A dedicated camera bag.
🧴 Toiletries & Personal Items
- Basics: Conditioner, shampoo, soap, lightweight hiking towels (Jonas has one, Iris has two, including a special one for long hair), electric toothbrush (2 heads), toothpaste.
- Personal Care: A tiny bit of makeup, face cream (essential for wind and cold), hand cream (a “lifesaver”), baby wipes (for quick washes while camping), beard oil, razor, trimmer.
- Medication: A bag of medication including malaria pills, altitude sickness pills, painkillers, and antibiotics.
🛡️ Security & Miscellaneous
- Security: 2 bike covers, 1 full-size lock to connect both bikes, rope (for recovery and pulling bikes out of sand).
- Entertainment: 1 magnetic chessboard, each 1 physical book, maps of South/Central America and the USA, a notebook for writing/drawing.
- Comfort: Vossie and Pingie 😉.
